Heck yeah. Me and my peeps from the Ancient Gallery (Silly diego/playaQ) are building the XARA CAR!

Basically a 16x8 patch of Xara that roams around the Playa.

Don't let them tell you Xara isn't at Burning Man in 2007!

We did it in 2005, I have no clue what happened in '06, but alive in '07.

are you going to be using REAL Xara flowers and foliage? Or is this gonna be some cheap Xara knockoff.
Did you get permission from the tradeMark holder? Are you prepared for the acts of god that your art car is subject to?
Keep an eye out for tornados and 70mph winds. The gods are pissed at Xara and will stop at nothing to destroy it.

        Hey Casey!

Answers: We planned on real grass, but I may get a hold of some high quality fake turf instead. Not a cheap Xara knockoff- it has been fully approved by King Mark, and is also being provided by him. Comments on the quality of foilage are essentially comments to Mark Himself, beware.

For some reason our experiences with Xara have been safe. Aside from watering the grass in 2005 with fire breathing fuel, we have had no major problems.

Do you guys know about the new rule at Burning Man - no plants. I believe this would apply to grass.

Plant rules? Yeah I heard. I chose to ignore

            This is Xara.

            Xara existed before RULES.

I mean come on, who is going to stop Mark Hinkley with his trailer of grass at the gate? If I listened to every rule posted around here I would end up not going.

I'm thinking about bringing my AK-47 and a big box of fireworks too.

That's a joke right? No plants. Is that seriously a new rule? Is that along the same lines of no peeing on the playa?
They are worried about life suddenly taking hold and sprouting out of a million years of peterified fish shit?

Since you are taking real Xara foiliage and real grass.... good for you, go for it. You poor dumb bastard. No disrespect, but when you get blown over by tornados, you learn to stop tempting fate.

I like the idea of taking fireworks and setting them off geurilla style. Fuck the rules. Setting up a geurilla drive by shooting range at the trash fence would be cool too, but carries greater consequences.

Yeah, I know, it sounds like a joke. 'Green Man' - wouldn't that include green plants?
But it really is a new, hated rule. There are looong threads on the Burning Man tribe about it. The reasoning is that *any* plants brought will die and become moop.
I disagree with the rule. We should be trusted to keep a plant or two alive for a week, even in the desert, and be trusted to not create/leave behind moop.
I do not want to be camped next to the Xara camp...I'll just drop by for a visit.

I would imagine that spilled potting soil would be a bigger problem than dead plant mater.

It pretty comes down to Burning Man is getting less trusting and catering more to Darkwads and noobies.

Yeah- plants make a mess. So do feathers. So does a candy wrapper. If I take pains to make sure my grass is taken care of, and disposed of properly why should it be banned by default? If we start adding more rules we won't have Burning Man anymore, we will have Sea World.

Yes, grass makes a mess. I'll take care of it. I've been part of Sod installation and removal about 4 times now. I think I could have handled it.

I'm turning into a crusty real quick here....

i bet you can blame this one in part on the lush camp from a few years ago that brought tons of palm fronds to decorate their dance space, creating one of the biggest post-burn clean-up nightmares of a big dance camp ever (which is saying a lot).

or so i heard through the dpw grapevine...

i dunno that it has to do entirely with the borg catering to newbies (although undoubtedly this is a part of it) as there are unfortunately now lots of people out there who don't clean up after themselves.

Fuck Burning Man. Yep, I said it. Fuck Burning Man in it's stupid ass. They can take their "rules" and bureaucracy and assorted bullshit that I will no longer tolerate and shove it up their collective asses. That festival was a lot cooler back in 99' when they only charged $65.00 for a ticket. I will not go back to Burning Man, period. If you see me on the playa, please kick me in the balls and remind me of what I said.

Yeah Fuck BM. But you know what. Fuck you Casey. You better be there or I'll kick you in the balls in some seedy club in Denver if I have too....

I've been twice. And it is STILL the most amazing experience I've ever had; life changing. They can add a lot more rules and I will still marvel at the art, the community and the amazing world created by and for us.

Dude, thanks for the love. You would actually go through the trouble of traveling out here, and kicking me in the balls, just to get me to go to the playa again? That makes me feel all warm inside. I love you too man.

What a lovely thread! Yes, Xara yet is still to come. No, I am not creating a Xara theme camp this year.

But a number of other people are doing Xara things on their own, with my support and blessing. I think that is very flattering. First was the Xara Car-a, then BRAF's recycled garden, then a "big thing"and entrance for the Ancient Gallery at Playa Q, then stuff for the Mushroom Kingdom out of Canada. All are projects close to my heart.

I am also doing a little Xara courtyard of my own at the family residence with the kids and a cousin, just to sweeten up our own space. This is my first effort at creature comfort, and I am looking forward to playing host.

So yes, Xara here remains. I can't wait to see you all there, chillin; in the cool breezes of Black Rock City.

The Admiralllll looks forward to amy amd all Xara-related science and art on the playa. As we say Xara is "all the fire, none of the dust" so hope grass is on hand in healthy supply. Didn't Dad mow the lawn at burning man on Malcome in the Middle?

Andy, I hope I am sober enough to catch up with the moving Xara car for a ride. King Mark and Queen Sandy, this Knight is available to serve the royal family at your whim and will be honored the princes will be along too. Wherest might though find thy majesty within the kingdom come hither?

    I found mini-Xara at BRC '07! Yay!

Good to see you dusty Mark. I'd love to hear what your family thought of their first burn together!

Keep CC and I posted on any plans to do a larger camp. We've been clowning around (literally) the last two years with the Red Nose District and Cirque Berzerk, but would gladly help pitch in again with a xara playa space.
